                What is 5G?

5G is the latest evolution of cellular technology and promises to greatly increase the speed, responsiveness and coverage of not only your phone, but eventually every device you use to connect to the internet.

Imagine being able to download an entire season of Game of Thrones or Stranger Things, in seconds. That's the promise of 5G. Beyond raw speed however, you'll eventually experience more responsive apps and web pages and real-time multiplayer games with people across the street or across the world, thanks to 5G.

These are very early days and it will be years before 5G fully matures. Today, wireless carriers have just flipped the switch on their 5G networks in a few select cities. And only specific phones and devices with 5G hardware inside them will be able to truly benefit from the speed gains.

CNET will continue to follow every 5G development that matters. Bookmark this page to see the latest news and developments and the best 5G coverage on the planet.
